Zofia Radecki

FRYEBURG — Zofia "Zosia" Radecki, 62, passed away unexpectedly at her Fryeburg home on Saturday, July 29, 2017.

Born and raised in Zyrzyn, Poland, Zofia was the youngest in a family of five. Her childhood was spent tending to her family farm, alongside her parents and siblings. Upon completion of high school, Zofia began her career as an accountant for her local agricultural institute, where she prospered for 11 years.

In 1983, Zofia met the love of her life, Andrzej, after he asked her for a dance; their love and commitment for one another never wavered in the 34 years that were to follow. After four short months, they were married. Together, they overcame significant obstacles, notably fighting for free rights and democracy in Poland, and emigrating to the United States with nothing but a suitcase, in search of a better life for themselves, and the family they would build. They settled first in Lovell, then North Conway, N.H., and finally in Fryeburg, where they would raise their two sons, Thomas and Robert. Zofia prided herself on being a devoted and loving mother, and cherished seeing her son's accomplishments, including their graduation from college and continued success in their respective careers.

Zofia was raised with a great faith and devotion to her friends and family, and was a committed member of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton church. She consistently exhibited kindness, compassion and a great sense of humor, creating a lasting memory for those around her. Zofia loved dancing, long walks, herbal teas, tending her flower gardens, and time spent in the kitchen making her renowned traditional Polish dishes, including pierogi, babka, golobki, and murzynek.

Zofia was predeceased by her father and mother, Stanislaw and Helena Krawczak. She is survived by her husband, Andrzej and her two sons, Thomas and Robert as well as her family in Poland.

A funeral mass for Zofia will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton church at 857 Main St., in Fryeburg, on Saturday, Aug. 5, at 11 a.m. Friends and family are encouraged to gather in the church's banquet room following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fryeburg Rescue in her name at P.O. Box 177, 89 Bridgton Rd., Fryeburg, ME 04037.
