Naturalist Chris Lewey will return to Harrison Village Library along with his co-authors Sharon Fisher and Jane Lounsbury to discuss their recently published book, “The Science of Watching, the Art of Seeing and the Power of Nature Absorption” at 6:30 p.m. Copies of the book will be available for purchase. Should a snow date be needed, the program will be rescheduled to March 18 at 6:30 p.m. This program is free and open to the public.

Thursday, March 14

Deborah Condello, Community Outreach Coordinator at the Southern Maine Agency on Aging, will speak to local Rotarians and friends from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at Stella’s on the Square, 6 North High Street in Bridgton. The event is free. Coffee will be served.

Friday, March 15

Owl Prowl, 7 to 9 p.m. Join Greater Lovell Land Trust’s Executive Director Rhyan Paquereau as he leads you on an expedition to hear some owls! Please meet at Segur West Wildlife Refuge. Bring a flashlight and be prepared to walk in the dark! Registration required (www.gllt.org).

Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16

Instrumental Jazz Festival. Lake Region High School will host the Maine Music Educators’ Association High School Instrumental State Jazz Festival, featuring 30 bands and combos over two days, starting at noon to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 15 and all day on Saturday, March 16. Lake Region’s Jazz Band and Jazz Combos will be performing on Saturday — the Jazz Combo at 11 a.m. and the Jazz Band at 3:45 p.m. Instrumental vendors will be there and there will be concessions provided by the Varsity Club.

Project FeederWatch, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Join Greater Lovell Land Trust at the Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library in Lovell to participate in Project FeederWatch! This winter citizen science program allows people of all ages to observe and learn about their backyard birds. In the comfort of the library, participants can use binoculars and field guides to identify and record the birds that visit the feeders. No registration required. This will be a drop-in program. No prior bird-watching experience necessary. 

Saturday, March 16

Texas Hold’em Tournament, Harrison Lions Club, at the Lions’ Den, located at the back of the Block Building on Main Street in Harrison. There will be a $60 entry fee. Doors open at noon with a start time of 1 p.m. Great food and refreshments available.

St. Patrick’s Day corned beef and cabbage boiled dinner sponsored by the Bridgton/Fryeburg Knights of Columbus will be held at 5 p.m., at St. Joseph Church, 225 South High Street, in Bridgton. Donations will be accepted to support the Bridgton Food Pantry. Take-out meals will be available.

Waterford World’s Fair Supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the North Waterford Church. Menu: Boiled Dinner, along with beverages and homemade dessert. Cost: $15.

Sunday, March 17

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church Sunday Service at 10 a.m., at 42 Sweden Road, Bridgton. All are welcome.

Wednesday, March 20

Otisfield’s Community Lunch will be held at the Community Hall at 292 Route 121 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. No charge, but donations accepted.  On the menu is corned beef with cabbage, potatoes, carrots, Irish soda muffins and gingerbread with whipped cream. In addition to the lunch, there will be a Puzzle Swap. So, bring a puzzle if you have. 

Thursday, March 21

Kettle Dinner, 5 p.m. (note: not 4:30) at the Bridgton Community Center. Tacos and related side dishes followed brownies and ice cream will be served by the Bridgton Lions. The dinner is free and open to the public. 

Trivia Night, hosted by the Lake Region High School Interact Club, 6 to 8 p.m. in the LRHS cafeteria. $10 per team (maximum 6 people). Refreshments available for purchase.

Solar Power — is solar electricity for you? Presented by Resilient Harrison Maine, United Parish Church (77 Main Street in Harrison) is hosting a presentation at 6:30 p.m. There will be lots of time for Q&A! Photojournalist Rebecca Buyers joins the Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library Speaker Series in person (and via Zoom) to share her experiences in the creation of The Great Cranberry Island Portrait Project, a work published in 2023 that combines Buyers’ photos and oral histories of Great Cranberry Islanders with the art of printmaker Janet Best Badger. The talk begins at 7 p.m.

Saturday, March 23

Deb Johnson, Education Outreach Coordinator for The Maine Mineral & Gem Museum in Bethel, will be doing a guest reading of a fun Science picture book and lead some solar eclipse activities geared for ages 4 through 8 at 10 a.m. at the Denmark Public Library Children’s Room.

Spring Pie Sale, at the Naples United Methodist Church on the Village Green from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Pies can be ordered up until March 21, by e-mailing cathy_gerrish@yahoo.com or leaving a message at (207) 693-6854. Additional pies will also be available on Saturday, March 23. Pie selections include: Apple, Blueberry, Chocolate Cream, Coconut Cream, Custard, Lemon Meringue, Raspberry, and Peanut Butter. Pies will cost $18 with $3 going to the Community Resource Council Food Pantry.

Fifth annual Thanksgiving in Spring drive-up and pick-up or eat your take-out meal here turkey dinner will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Lovell United Church of Christ (1174 Main Street). The menu includes turkey with all the fixins — stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, cranberry sauce, rolls and cake. Cost is $12 per person. Call Elsa at 928-3100 to reserve your dinner.

Pie Saturday Night Supper. The Casco Village Church, United Church of Christ is hosting its March “Pie” Saturday Night Supper from 4:30 to 6 p.m. This month’s dinner will feature all pies: pizza, chicken, pork, beef, spaghetti, shepherd’s, etc.! There will also be salads and desserts — more pie! It’s all for $12 for adults, and $5 for children ages 8 and under. Virtual Lecture. The Rufus Porter Museum of Art & Ingenuity presents Stuart Kestenbaum, who will do a virtual lecture for Poetry Month. Stuart, the Maine Poet Laureate from 2016 to 2021, will present a program called “Poetry and the Creative Process” at 7 p.m. Tickets are free with a suggested donation. The Table is always interested in other teams who would like to take a Saturday and serve breakfast. The in-person breakfast has been a great way to combat food insecurity as well as fulfilling a social need for many in the area.
