Judith Shivik

Judith “Judy” Allen Shivik (née Lord), 79, passed away on April 17, 2024, in Falmouth.

The daughter of Harry and Margaret Lord, she was born on July 2, 1944, in Portland. She
was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and continued her studies there obtaining
a master’s degree in Education. While studying abroad in Germany, she developed a passion for language and travel, leading to a lifelong career as a foreign language teacher and Foreign Language Department Head for the Newburyport, Mass., public school system.

Judy was devoted to her family and found joy in spending time with them at their property in Porter. She was actively involved in the Unitarian church community at the First Religious Society of Newburyport. A dedicated public servant, she spent many years on the school board in South Hampton, N.H., where she had settled with her husband, Walter Shivik, after their marriage in 1969. Her hobbies included gardening, reading, and cooking, especially making blueberry pies. She loved being in the company of other independent women and was a long-term member of multiple book groups and a study class. Later in life, she became part of a new caring community in Bridgton, and pursued a passion and talent for writing.

She is survived by her daughters Jessica Shivik and Maida Shivik, sons-in-law Brooke Hidell and Caelim Parkes, sister Deborah McCleery, grandsons Roan Parkes and Wyeth Parkes, and partner, Peter Davis.

Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Walter F. Shivik, and her brother, John Lord.

The family would like to thank Legacy Memory Care of Falmouth, and Compassus Hospice of Scarborough, for their exceptional devotion to and care of Judy.
