CHARLEVOIX, MICH. — Susan Renee Bergmann, 60, of Charlevoix, Michigan, died at home on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019.

She was born on May 7, 1959, in Grand Rapids, Mich., the daughter of Hubert Raymond Rich and Lillian Myra (Rand) Rich.

She graduated from Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School in
Norway/South Paris, in 1977. She graduated from Mercy Hospital
School of Nursing, Portland, Maine, in 1980. She later received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree at Lake Superior State University in Michigan.

She began her nursing career in the OB department at The Memorial Hospital in North Conway, N.H. Then later on, she worked for many years as a Certified OB Nurse in Fairbanks, Alaska, where she met and later married Dan Bergmann. They eventually relocated to Bethel, Alaska and Sue worked as a Correctional Nurse at the Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center.

When she and her husband, Dan, moved to Charlevoix, Michigan, she continued her career as an OB Nurse at Charlevoix Hospital and then later, she was the Director at Charlevoix County Commission on Aging.

She and her husband returned to Alaska in 2009, and she worked for the State of Alaska, as a Public Health Nurse Manager, at Ketchikan Public Health Center. This job required frequent visits by float plane to remote villages, which Sue really enjoyed. She recently retired and she and her husband returned to Michigan.

Her life was filled with many adventures and Sue loved the out- doors. She and her husband Dan and 2-year-old daughter Brenna, traveled the entire length of the Yukon River by boat. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, knitting, crocheting, sewing, gardening, cooking, picking berries, mushrooms and most of all, spending time with her family and friends. She was a creative soul, blessing her friends and relatives with handmade and canned goods as often as she could. She had an amazing sense of humor, an infectious laugh and a fighting spirit and will to live that helped her survive long beyond anyone’s expectations.

She is survived by her loving husband, Daniel Lee Bergmann; her daughter, Brenna Lee (Bergmann) Cordner and husband, Chadwick Cordner of Georgia, Vt. her mother, Lillian Myra (Rand) Rich of Bridgton, Maine her brother, Victor Scott Rich of Bridgton, Maine her sister, Rita Lynne Roby and her husband, Dr. Scott Roby of Fryeburg, Maine and many nieces and nephews, including Kyle Merton Kimball of Waterford, Maine, Kelly Sue (Kimball) Parrott and husband Jake Parrott of Bridgton, Maine and four grandchildren, Betty Maura Cordner, Maple Leonora Cordner, Welles Robert Lee Cordner, and Rook Edwin Richard Cordner.

She was predeceased by her father, Hubert Raymond Rich (Jan. 1, 2015)

Funeral services will take place in the spring of 2020, where the family hopes to come together and accept friends and share memories. Interment will take place in the spring of 2020 at Undine Cemetery in Hayes Township, Michigan.
