Sarah Stanhope

INDIAN LAND, S.C. — Sarah Jane Stanhope, 94, of Indian Land, S.C. died on Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, S.C.

Mrs. Stanhope’s burial will be in Portland at a later time.

Born in Portland, Mrs. Stanhope was the daughter of the late Leonard and Minnie Long Austin. She retired from Portland Gas Company. Mrs. Stanhope enjoyed camping and dancing with friends. She and her husband were very active square dancers in younger years. Mrs. Stanhope was very involved in the lives of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren prior to moving to South Carolina with her son, Gary Morton in February 2013.

Surviving are her sons, Gary Morton of Indian Land, S.C. and John of Naples/Sebago Lake; her daughter, Pamela Peterson of Portland; 11 grandchildren of New York; and 11 great-grandchildren, all living in Maine, Florida and Texas.
