Sara Sprague

SEBAGO — Sara Dauphinee Sprague, 85, born on Nov. 11, 1934, passed peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019, with loving family by her side.

She was the daughter of Edgar and Sylvia (Pinkham) Dauphinee of Sebago, Maine. She was predeceased by her husband, Bill Sprague in 2001. She is survived by her sister, Marjory (Betty) Higgins of Gray; brother, Bill Dauphinee and his wife, Connie, of Gorham; son, Donald Sprague of Bridgton; son, David Sprague and his wife, Jennifer, of North Berwick; daughter, Billi Lynn Burke and her husband, Kelvin, of Bridgton; daughter, Belisa Harriman and her husband, Jeff, of Sebago, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was an iconic figure in the Lake Region area, having graduated from Potter Academy in 1953, as a star student-athlete. After beginning her family, she coached basketball at Potter Academy and worked on earning her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at Gorham State Teacher’s College, now known as USM. She graduated in 1973 and taught various grade levels in several schools in SAD 61 for 30 years. She retired in 2003, but continued serving as a substitute teacher for a few years thereafter.

In her sunset years, she was an avid reader. She enjoyed going for rides, visiting with close friends and family over coffee, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was also an active member of the Potter Academy Alumni Association, the Naples Grange, and the Maple Grove Grange No. 148.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 24, at 12 noon, at the Sebago Center Community Church, 415 Bridgton Rd., in Sebago. There will be a luncheon immediately following the service across the street at the Potter Academy Gym.
