Russell Lewis Littlefield, 77, United States Marine Corps (Retired), of Bridgton, died early Saturday evening, Feb. 6, 2016, at his home in Bridgton.

He was born on May 30, 1938, in Bridgton, a son of James P. and Marion Gertrude (Libby) Littlefield Jr. He attended local schools, later enlisting in the Marine Corps.

Russell retired from the Marines as a gunnery sergeant after 20 years of service to his country. He was stationed throughout the U.S. and Japan, and served four tours of duty in Vietnam.

In his retirement, Russell stayed active in a number of various jobs, namely carpentry, and active involvement in local veterans’ organizations. He was a life member and Past Commander of the Naples American Legion Post #155 in Naples and a life member of the Naples VFW Post #11362. He also served as the District Commander of the American Legion and was a member of the 40&8 Voyager 1003. Currently he was an officer of the Lakeside Grange in Harrison.

He was an avid reader of mystery novels and enjoyed collecting U.S.M.C. paraphernalia.

Russell is survived by his wife, Marian (Nelligan Levasseur) Littlefield, of Bridgton, whom he married on Dec. 18, 2006, in Las Vegas, Nev., a son, James Littlefield and his wife Lindie of Rosamond, Calif., a daughter, Marion “Lisa” Riggans of Akron, Ohio, a stepson, Brian Levasseur and his wife Faye of Naples; grandchildren, Jennifer Littlefield, Jaime Dickey and her fiancé, Travis Lacoste and their daughter, Valerie, Blake and Erin Riggans; step-granddaughter, Erin Levasseur; sisters, Joyce Williams and her husband, Sherwood of Houston, Texas, and Janet Roma of Portland; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and his first wife, Yoshiko Littlefield, on March 9, 1986.

A memorial service will be held at 12 noon, Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, at the Naples American Legion Post, 26 Casco Rd., Naples, Maine.
