Roger E. Plante

Roger E. Plante, 85, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2023, following a long illness, in the home he lovingly built.

Roger was born to Edward and Leona (Noel) Plante in Lawrence, Mass., on September 26, 1938,
one of six children. He attended St. Ann’s Catholic School and Central Catholic High School.
Following high school, he joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country during the Korean War era as an air traffic controller. Following his service, he was honorably discharged and went on to pursue a degree in Industrial Engi- neering at the University of Lowell. He worked at Varian and EG&G in Massachusetts until his retirement.

In 1998 Roger retired to Bridgton, to the home and lake he loved, where he enjoyed many wonderful years. Often times you would find him sitting on his porch, doing his word puzzle, working in his yard, spending time with family and friends and enjoying his Maine home. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the ATV and snowmobile clubs and a core member of the St. Joe’s Food Pantry.

He was predeceased by his loving parents, Edward and Leona Plante, his sister Beatrice Mooney and her husband Walter, and a brother-in-law William Blake.

He is survived by his sisters, Sister Yvette Plante, Lillian Hemmerling and husband Walter, sister Diana Blake, brother Dennis Plante, and dear friends Christopher and Jennifer Daw- ley, their children — who Roger considered grandchildren — Katherine Dawley, and Thomas Dawley, and great-granddaugh- ter Aurora Fandetti, along with several nieces and nephews.

A mass of Christian burial will take place on Saturday, De- cember 30, 2023, at 10 a.m., in St. Joseph Church on High Street in Bridgton with military honors. Arrangements are un- der the care of Chandler Funeral Home and Cremation Service 8 Elm St., Bridgton, Maine.
