CUMBERLAND — Robert (Bob) D. Miller, 89, of Cumberland passed away at his home on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014.
Bob was born on Feb. 15, 1925 in Narberth, Pa. to Albert and Maude Miller. In 1943, he graduated from Lower Merion High School. Immediately after graduating high school, he joined the Army and served in the 11th Engineer Combat Battalion in World War II. After the war, Bob attended Amherst College, where he met his wife, Sally Wilford, whom he married in 1949. Bob graduated from Amherst College in 1950 and went on to attend the Wharton School of Business.
In 1988, Bob retired and moved from Hingham, Mass. to Hancock Beach in Casco. He later moved to Cumberland in 2006.
He particularly enjoyed gardening and fishing on Thompson Lake. In his retirement, he served as a volunteer at the Maine Audubon in Falmouth, and was an officer of the Loon Echo Land Trust.
Bob was also an active member and deacon in the Congregational churches in both Casco and Yarmouth.
Bob leaves behind his loving wife of 65 years, Sally Miller; his children, Virginia Miller, Carrie Federici and Ken Miller; and six grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his son, David Miller.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at the First Parish Church in Yarmouth on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014 at 11 a.m.
