NORTH BRIDGTON — Richard A. “Dick” Allen of North Bridgton, 78, died Saturday, March 15, 2014, surrounded by his family.

Born on June 1, 1935, in Harrison to Frank and Susie Allen, Richard grew up in North Bridgton and later returned to live in his childhood home. He graduated from Bridgton Academy in 1953 and went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army in Korea.

He worked for the Maine State Forestry Service for more than 30 years, retiring in 1987. He spent more than 35 years with the North Bridgton Fire Department, where he served as chief for many years. Richard was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and an active Ham Radio operator. He will always be remembered as a generous man, loving father, and doting grandfather.

Richard was predeceased by both parents. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, mother of his children, and best friend, Brenda Marcotte; daughters Bethany Allen (children Rachael, Christian, and Brittany), and Susan Miller (husband Paul); son Jeffrey Allen (wife Sarah and son James); brother Russell (wife Kathy); nephews Ryan (wife Maria and children Ashlea and Dustin), and Nathan (wife Jeannie); and niece Katrina (husband Scott and son Jack).

A service will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Chandler Funeral Home, 8 Elm Street in Bridgton, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Bridgton United Firefighters Association, 3 Chase Street, Suite 1, Bridgton, ME 04009.
