Norton Little

Norton Little

HARRISON — Norton Richard Little, 90, of Harrison sadly passed away at his home on April 12, 2024, following a short bout of pancreatic and stomach cancer.

Norton was born on March 3, 1934, to Doris (Burnham) and Hartley Little and was the oldest of four children. Norton was raised in Little Cove in Harrison, on Long Lake.

After completing high school, he entered the U.S. Air Force and worked as a cable splicer during the Korean War. After receiving a veteran discharge from Shaw AFB S.C., he moved back to Maine and married Caroline (Wheeler) in 1954 and they lived and raised their family in South Berwick until Caroline’s death in 1988.

Norton worked and retired from civil service at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Once retired, Norton split his time between Florida and Maine. In October of 2003, he married his second wife, Elaine (Sahlin) and they eventually made their permanent residence in Little Cove on Long Lake in Harrison.

Norton, fondly remembered as “Dad,” “Grampa,” and “Uncle Norton,” will be missed greatly. Norton was extremely kind and generous, known for being quiet, private, and a casual observer. He will forever be remembered as a hard-working, reliable, and devoted “rock” to his family, a good friend and helpful neighbor, a conservationist and steward of the land, and beloved pillar of the “The Friendly Village” community.

Norton is survived by his second wife, Elaine (Sahlin) Little; daughter, Monica K. Strickland, (Watertown, Mass.), her children, Christopher M. Strickland and his partner, Keith (Kearney, Neb.), and Joshua P. Strickland and girlfriend, Caroline, (Brookfield, Mass.), Jessica LaRosee and her husband Scott, (Greene), and several great-grandchildren: Alexandra Strickland and Nicholas Ditaranto, Erik, Colin, and Mackenzie LaRosee, as well as a sister, Kathleen Rousseau, of Stuart, Fla.; and respective nieces and nephews, grand-nephews and great-grandnieces, and cousins.

As per Norton’s request, there will be a private family burial and no funeral or memorial service.

In lieu of flowers and condolences, donations can be made in his name to the Harrison Historical Society, 121 Haskell Hill Rd., Harrison, ME 04040.

Arrangements are in the care of the Hall Funeral Home in Casco where condolences and tributes may be shared at www.hallfuneralhome.net.
