Meredith Arnold

BROWNFIELD — Meredith Ann “Meri” Arnold (nee Barnes), 72, of Brownfield passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023.

Born on May 7, 1951, in Chelsea, Mass., Meri was a beloved wife, stepmother, sister, and friend.

From the first time I met Meri and through all the time we had together, I have been fascinated with and dazzled by the bright light within her. It shined through her eyes, her smile, her perfectly timed and toned wit, and everything she did. Meri never took on a job, chore, or task without doing her best. She knew how to give the best support for her loved ones and friends, from just being there to giving a gentle nudge to get you back on track. She had a talent for getting things organized without the need for a clipboard, whistle, or whip.

Deeply compassionate and tireless in giving of herself, she was one of the few purely good people I have ever met. I am so much better and richer for our time together. There are some tears and trials among all the memories, but that bright light will always fascinate and dazzle me.

Meri is survived by her loving husband, Walter; stepson, Joshua Arnold and his and her two grandchildren; brothers, Daniel Barnes and Steve Barnes; cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. They are all family to her.

She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Barnes, and mother, Jean Barnes.

Meri pursued her education at East Bridgewater Primary School, East Bridgewater High School, and Northeastern University. Throughout her career, she held various positions including payroll manager for a retail store chain during a growth from 60 to over 300 stores, bookkeeper for small businesses, restaurant hostess and server, and retail store clerk and manager. In all her career positions, she always contributed beyond the job requirements.

In her free time, Meri had a passion for hosting gatherings of all kinds and sizes. Whether it was a beer on the back porch or a formal dinner, she always made her guests feel at home. She also enjoyed gardening, crafting, cooking, and more, always “making” and “doing” for the people she cared for.

Meri had a lifelong dedication to honoring veterans for the service and sacrifice they gave for all of us. She supported Wreaths Across America, The Gary Sinise Foundation, and The Wounded Warrior Project. Gifts to any of those charities or other veterans service charities will honor her and be greatly appreciated.

She requested that her final arrangements be kept private so we will celebrate her in our hearts, honoring her remarkable contributions to her family, friends, and community. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Arrangements are in the care of the Hall Funeral Home in Casco where condolences and tributes may be shared amongst her family and friends at www.hallfuneralhome.net.
