GORHAM — Mary Louise (Smearer) Brown, 79, died on April 17, 2018, at her home.

She was born on June 26, 1938 in Portland, the daughter of George and Florence (Williams) Smearer.

Mary graduated from Gorham High School in 1956, and took courses at the Gorham State Teachers College, while raising her family.

While working at the Windham Pharmacy, she met her future husband, Richard Brown, and they were married on Oct. 12, 1956.

She was also employed by New England Telephone and Telegraph, Dodge Oil, AAA Travel, but was mostly a homemaker and had five boys by the time she was 31 years old.

Mary belonged to the Beta Sigma Phi (Sorority), was a Cub Scout den mother, she crafted silver jewelry, was a member of the River Meadow Golf Club, Gorham Country Club, Maine State Women’s Golf League, Senior Ladies Golf League, Southern Maine Golf, and River Meadows Couples Leagues. Mary had accomplished three holes-in-one! She also was a member of a couples bowling league.

Mary volunteered at the Kiwanis ski-slope. She traveled a great deal with her husband across the United States including Alaska, as well as abroad. She loved the Caribbean! Summers were spent with her family at their camp on Little Sebago Lake.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband; and her sister, Jane Evans.

She is survived by her children, Brent L. Brown of Naples, Wade R. Brown of Gorham, Ross R. Brown of Standish, Aaron W. Brown of Gorham and Chad E. Brown of Naples; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Sarah (Smearer) Rioux.

An hour of visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at the Windham Chapel of Dolby Blais & Segee, 434 River Road, followed by an 11 a.m. memorial service at the chapel. A reception after the service will be held at Ocean Gardens, 390 Main St., Gorham from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Burial will be private for the family.
