Mary C. Keniston, 95

Mary Keniston

RAYMOND — Mary Catherine Keniston, 95, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, June 27, 2018.

She was born in Hornell, N.Y., on Aug. 9, 1922, the daughter of the late Frank J. and Margaret (Butler) Wagner. She graduated from St. Ann’s and Hornell High Schools and was inducted in the Navy W.A.V.E.S. in Rochester, N.Y., where she attended Hunter College and was sent to Bethesda, Md. for training as a dental assistant. After her discharge from the Navy, Mary worked in the dental offices for Dr. James Sullivan in Hornell and Dr. Sidney M. Jacobson in South Portland.

Retiring to their home on Little Sebago Lake, Mary volunteered at Camp Sunshine and at the local nursing home. She remained very active at Our Lady of Perpetual Help as a greeter and minister of Holy Communion, and an invaluable member of Our Lady's Guild. She will be remembered by all who knew her as a rosy-cheeked, smiling woman who was a spiritual mentor to many. Her laughter was contagious, her peanut butter fudge delicious, her hugs comforting, her faith unshakable, and her kitchen felt like home. She was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother and aunt.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of over 42 years, John W. Keniston (Jan. 16, 1990); sons, Johnny (June, 14, 1955) and Michael Keniston (Oct. 27, 2001); brothers, Francis Wagner and Thomas Wagner; and sister Alice Jean Altiere.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Marybeth LaRoche of Greene; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews.

A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Windham, on Friday, July 6, at 10 a.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at hallfuneralhome.net
