Martha Libby Barrow

LOVELL — Martha Arlene Libby Barrow, 91, of Lovell, passed away early Monday morning on Oct. 13, 2014, in Lewiston, due to complications from a stroke.

She was born the daughter of Francis Parker Libby and Beatrice Pride Libby on their farm in Lovell.

She had two sisters and three brothers from Lovell; and she had 17 nieces and nephews: Claire, Duane, and Jean LaCasce; Gary and Kent Libby; Dale, Rhonda, Suzanne, Tammy and Scott Andrews; Richard and Laurie Libby; Lisa and Stephen Bennett; and Robert and Roberta Libby.

She had nine grandchildren, Sydney, Lucas, Katherine, Clayton, Michelle, Libby, Ann, Arlene and Alex; and two great-grandchildren, Cecelia and Vivian.

Martha is survived by her three sons, Michael, Stephen and Peter; her sister Janeane LaCasce and husband James; and sister-in-law Roberta Bennett and husband Norris.

Martha served proudly in the Women's Marine Reserve, rising to the rank of Sergeant during WW II, and in 1947 she married Master Sergeant Clayton Barrow. After raising a family of three boys in bases on the East and West coasts, the family settled in Annapolis, Md. They built a vacation house on part of the Libby property in Lovell. After Clayton passed away she moved full-time to the house in Lovell, and resided there until her passing. She had a lifelong love of gardening, birds and Nature, and especially fabric arts — knitting, weaving, dyeing and spinning. She was always cooking, canning and baking! Crafts of every kind were soon mastered, all to the delight of her family and friends!

Deeply admired and loved by so many, she will be forever missed.

There will be a graveside service for her at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 18, at #4 Cemetery, Lovell. Arrangements are made with Wood Funeral Home, Fryeburg. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.woodfuneralhome.org
