Marcia A. O’Donnell, 95

SOUTH PORTLAND — Marcia A. O’Donnell of South Portland died Monday, March 6, 2017, days after celebrating her 95th birthday at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice house, surrounded by her loving family.

Marcia was born Feb. 23, 1922, in Houlton, the daughter of Blaine and Venus (Niles) Lincoln. She was educated and a graduate of Houlton High School, Class of 1939.

Marcia married Dennis J. O’Donnell in June 1947. They resided in South Portland, where they raised their children.

She worked at the South Portland schools in the cafeteria for many years, also worked at Jordan Marsh, and later worked as a self-employed housekeeper.

She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, where she became a Eucharistic minister.

She had a wonderful passion for gardening. She had a beautiful rock garden and was always surrounding herself with colorful flowers and fresh veggies. She was very gifted in her ability to sew and made many family heirloom quilts. She was an unbelievable baker. She made the best homemade bread and whoopie pies that over the years family tried to duplicate, but just couldn’t! She loved her special Fridays with her daughter, they would always go clothes or shoe shopping followed by lunch at Mr. Bagel. Recently, she was very excited to spend her 95th birthday out to eat with her family at one of her favorite restaurants, The Snow Squall.

She is predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Dennis O’Donnell.

Survivors include her sons, Joseph of South Portland and Peter of Vermont; daughter, Denise (Davis) of Raymond; five granddaughters and nine great-grandchildren; along with many cherished friends.

A celebration of Marcia’s life will be held from 2 to 5 p.m., Saturday, March 18, at the Elizabeth Hobbs Hospitality Center, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. Arrangements are under the guidance of Hobbs Funeral Home, South Portland. Condolences may be expressed online at www.hobbsfuneralhome.com
