WESTBROOK — LaVita Ruth Rogers, 88, of Westbrook, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Springbrook Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Enid, Okla., the daughter of Ursula Swain Crosley. She later moved to Maine and worked at the Westbrook School Department and later at Zayre’s. LaVita was a member of the Westbrook United Methodist Church and active with the Westbrook United Methodist Women. She also served as a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the Westbrook Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

LaVita enjoyed rug hooking, sewing and knitting. She won a first prize at the Cumberland Fair for one of her rugs. She enjoyed doing crafts and bingo with her friends at Springbrook. She served as a counselor for Camp Fire Girls and Blue Birds. She also enjoyed following NASCAR.

She was predeceased by her husband Clifton in 1987.

She is survived by a son, Byron L. Rogers of Raymond; daughters, Ruth Ann Campbell of Dummer, N.H., Patsy Rogers Cote of Westbrook and Marjorie Dube of Westbrook; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours were held Monday at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church Street, Westbrook, followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. with Reverend Les Pettit officiating. Interment followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at blaisandhayfuneralhome.com
