Kenneth R. Sharples

Kenneth Sharples

Kenneth Roy Sharples, 89, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2023, at his Bridgton home surrounded by his three sons, one of his grandsons, and his companion Marilyn.

Ken was born to Mildred Kessel Sharples and Robert Sharples on August 26, 1934. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1956.
He married Janine Monique Moreau on September 13, 1958, and they remained married until her death some 58 years later.

An accomplished electronic engineer, prolific inventor, successful entrepreneur, and loving husband, father and grandfather, Ken was a pioneer in the field of analog to digital conversion and was granted many U.S. and foreign patents directed to technologies that advanced the state of art, some of which are still incorporated into electronic devices manufactured today. He founded the Meterex Corporation in 1970 and led the company as CEO until his exit and retirement in 1990.

Ken and Janine resided and raised their three sons in Braintree, Mass., and Bridgton, and later lived in Chatham, Mass., Austin, Texas and The Sea Ranch, Calif. In 2017, following Janine’s passing, he relocated permanently to the beloved home he designed and built in 1969 on the west shore of Moose Pond in Bridgton. He enjoyed many creative and athletic pursuits, including architectural design, art and antique collecting, basketball, golf, and skiing. He was a generous supporter of the Lakes Environmental Association, Loon Echo Land Trust, Good Shepherd Food Bank and other local Maine organizations.

He is survived by three siblings, Barbara, Pauline and Robert, three sons, Ken and his wife Kelly, Brian and his wife Danielle, and Cliff and his wife Lisa, and ten grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks for the truly outstanding care provided by the entire staff at Androscoggin Home Healthcare + Hospice. In addition, we extend our most special thanks, love and profound appreciation to Marilyn McGoldrick of Denmark Maine, Ken’s companion and unwavering health supporter over the past five years. His sons trust that Ken will be fondly remembered as a strong and loving father and mentor, a gregarious and spirited New Englander, and a creative and engaging intellectual presence.

If desired, donations in his memory can be made to the Loon Echo Land Trust, 8 Depot Street, Bridgton, ME 04009, or visit their website at www.loonecholandtrust.org.
