WESTBROOK — Joan Carlyne Johnson, 87, of Westbrook, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 7, 2018.

Joan was born April 14, 1930, the daughter of the late Arthur J. and Louiza E. (Colpritt) Douvielle.

Joan was a graduate of Portland High School in 1949. She married Ray Alton Johnson of Gray the day after her high school graduation on June 17, 1949. Joan worked as a cashier at Cole Farms Restaurant for many years until she retired in 1999, at the age of 69, and moved to Northfield Green in Portland.

After retirement, she became part of the foster grandparent program in the Portland school district for several years, where she loved being with the teachers and school children. Joan enjoyed family gatherings, socializing with friends, puzzles, games, and movies. She was a kind and loving person and had many friends who adored her. She will be missed very much.

She is survived by her two sisters, Priscilla Jane Knapp of Flint, Mich. and Patricia Lucille Tetrault, of Suwannee, Ga.; three daughters, Debra Lee Keary, formerly of Gray, Jacqueline Rae Wing of Phoenix, Ariz., and Karen Arsenault of Bridgton; her eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a host of nieces and nephews and their families.

She was predeceased by her brother, Ralph Arthur Douvielle; sisters, Jeannette Kathleen Wormell and Louiza Evelyn Jones.
