Irving Hale

DENMARK — Irving R. Hale, 82, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at Montello Manor Nursing Home in Lewiston, following a brief illness.

Irving was born on Feb. 13, 1937, to Raymond and Grace Hale in Denmark, Maine.

He attended school in Denmark and Fryeburg. He married Elna McAllister in 1955, and they lived for 13 years in Scarborough before moving to Denmark in 1972, where he lived the rest of his life.

He loved to garden and always had a bountiful harvest, his little dog Trixie, and dancing. He also enjoyed playing softball well into his 50s. He lovingly cared for his wife until she passed in February 2016.

He worked at various machine shops and was foreman for 14 years at three different machine shops in Portland, So. Portland, and Bridgton. He was also the union president at Amatec machine shop in So. Portland. He sold MetLife insurance and then Miracle Ear hearing aids during the 1990s.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Irving is survived by his three children, Roger and wife Laurie of Naples, Rita and husband Richard Reutershan of Farmingdale, and Russ of Denmark: his eight grandchildren, Kevin, Sarah, Jaime, Adam, Matthew, Michael, Cathy and Robyn: also, his eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father Raymond; his mother Grace; his sister Erma Wilson; and his wife Elna.

There will be a celebration of life at Denmark Congregational Church on Sunday, Aug. 18, at 1:30 p.m., with a reception to follow downstairs. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Irving R. Hale may be made to the Denmark Congregational Church, PO Box 816, Denmark, ME 04022.
