DENMARK — Herbert Harvey Payne, lifelong resident of Denmark, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021, at Memorial Hospital in North Conway, N.H. at the age of 80.

He was born on July 28, 1941 to the late Francis Payne and Relefa McIntire Payne of Denmark. 

Herbert attended school in Denmark and Fryeburg Academy. Herbert joined the Army from 1963 to 1965, then returned to Denmark. He drove an oil truck for many years and created a property maintenance business that was well known. He developed long-lasting relationships with his customers that continued for generation after generation and over 60 years. That was his life and what he loved. He was already at his vacation spot and never had a desire to take one because he was doing what he loved every day.

Herb was well respected and known for his trustworthiness and strong work ethic. His sense of humor brought laughter to any situation he was in and will be remembered by all who knew him.

He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Payne Apostolas; his brothers, George Payne of Keystone Heights, Fla., Roland Payne of Cabot, Vt. And Robert Payne of Raymond; a sister, Sandra Utterstrom of Falmouth; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Francis Payne, Rayfield Payne, Dennis Payne and Carroll Payne; and sisters, Gwendolyn Teague and Velma Ellis.

Services will be held in the spring.
