SOUTH PORTLAND — Harriett Munch Wernig Rand, 92, of South Portland died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
She was born in Portland on April 12, 1922, a daughter of Edwin and Dorothy (Day) Munch. She attended Portland schools. She married Robert Wernig in May 1945 and following Mr. Wernig’s death in 1971, she married Bradford Rand in 1977. She worked as a clerk in several retail stores and most enjoyed her work as a cashier at Laverdiere’s Drug Store.
Harriett was a loving and devoted mother who dedicated her life to her family. She had a great joy for life and liked shopping for jewelry and clothing, singing hymns and country songs, and cooking. She was a longtime member of the South Portland Church of the Nazarene
She is predeceased by her husbands, two brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by three daughters, Carol Wernig of Portland, Barbara Velez of Naples and Judith Ricker of Lubbock, Texas; a son, Edward P. Lessard of D’Iberville, Miss.; a sister, Marion Hodges of Brownwood, Texas; 16 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Harriett’s life was held Monday at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland, at a later date. Online condolences may be expressed at www.ctcrawford.com
