SEBAGO — George J. LaPointe, 74, of Sebago, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after a long illness.

He was born in Portland on May 8, 1942, a son of Ivan and Pearl McCleary LaPointe. He attended local schools including Potter Academy in Sebago. He married Claudette LeBlanc on Nov. 23, 1963.

George worked for Gotham Indus-tries in Leominster, Mass., for several years. He and Claudette moved back to Sebago in the late 1970s and he built his own home. He worked for the Maine Department of Transportation for over 30 years. Many of the later years at the M.D.O.T. were working as the Bridge Operator for the Casco Bay Bridge, formerly known as the "Million Dollar Bridge."

He loved hunting and ice fishing with his two sons. George definitely had the "gift of gab," and loved sharing stories with family and many friends. Having a beer with his boys and just spending time with family was most important to him.

He was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Coty. Surviving are his wife, Claudette LaPointe of Sebago, two sons, Michael LaPointe and wife Bonnie, and Jim LaPointe and wife Angela, all of Sebago; a granddaughter, Danielle LaPointe of Sebago; a brother, Paul LaPointe of Flint, Mich.; a sister, Patti Parker of Bridgton; and also several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 1 p.m., at his son's home at 69 Taylor Road in Sebago. Online condolences may be expressed at: www.wnyfuneralhome.com
