George F. Morgan

George Francis Morgan, 88, of Bridgton, formerly of Reading, Mass., died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at his home.

He was born in Lawrence, Mass. on July 13, 1924, the son of William and Susie Bunker Morgan. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1943 and served in the European theater during World War II, leaving the Army in 1946 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in the class of 1950, with a major in accounting. On Jan. 21, 1967, George was married to Mildred Louise Lawrence at the First Calvary Baptist Church in Lawrence, Mass.

After working for 35 years as an investment banker for Shawmut Bank of Boston he and his wife moved from Reading, Mass. to Bridgton, Maine in 1986. He was a past Master of Tuscan Lodge in Lawrence, a life member of the Masonic Lodge, and a life member of the Floyd A. Harlow Jr. V.F.W. Post #9787 in South Paris. He served on the building committee for Knights Hill Association in Bridgton.

He is survived by a brother, John Morgan of Reading, Mass.; and four nieces, DonnaLee MacDonald of Hingham, Mass., Joan Mazara and Patricia Morgan, both of Metheun, Mass., and Susan Ade of Williamsburg, Va. He was predeceased by his wife on Jan. 21, 2009.
