Franklin P. Tenney, 84

 

CASCO — Franklin Paul Tenney, 84, formerly of Casco, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016 at Haven Hospice in Gainesville, Fla.

He was born Nov. 1, 1931 at the Tenney Homestead on Quaker Ridge in Casco, the son of Warren Nathan Tenney and Inez Knight Tenney. He was a twin and one of 11 children, all born at Quaker Ridge. Along with his siblings, they attended the one-room schoolhouse on Quaker Ridge and Casco High School.

He moved his family from Tenney Hill, Casco to Gainesville, Fla. in 1966 to be near his oldest brother, Arnold and family who had settled there after WWII. Frank and Gertie lived 50 years in the house they purchased in Gainesville and celebrated their 64th anniversary there last year. Before being medically retired in 1986 due to an on-the-job accident, he was a Construction Superintendent building schools, armories and other related structures and interesting projects. He was known for his custom masonry fireplaces as many of his brothers were known for in Maine.

He was predeceased by daughter, Carolyn Tenney Signore Glasgow; two granddaughters; his parents; and nine of his siblings, Arnold, Guy, Arline, Beaulah, Emma, Alton, Gloria, twin sister Frances, and brother Marshall.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gertie Tenney; son Colin Paul Tenney; daughters Rhonda Tenney Crawford and Paula Tenney McLamb; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and brother, Melvin of Naples.

A funeral service was held in Gainesville on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016 at 1 p.m. for viewing, and a service at 2 p.m. at Willliams-Thomas Funeral Home, 823 NW 143rd (County Road 241) Jonesville, Fla. A reception followed.

A celebration of his life will be held in Maine this summer, date to be determined.
