HOLLYWOOD, FLORIDA — Mrs. Dorothy E. Stackhouse, 94, of Hollywood, Fla., died Oct. 13, 2013, at the Presidential Place assisted living facility, where she had resided for three years.

She was born March 9, 1919 in Peabody, Mass., the daughter of Leland and Edith Page. She was married to Clayton E. Stackhouse for 67 years. He predeceased her in 2009.

She and her husband lived in Bridgton, Maine, from 1946 to 1956, whereupon they moved to Danvers, Mass. While in Bridgton she served as the Troop leader for the Girl Scouts as well as operating dancing schools throughout the region. She also was active in the Bridgton Methodist Church.

After moving to Mass., she became active in the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as the Worthy Matron of Peabody Chapter #162. In 1969 she became the Worthy Grand Matron of the Massachusetts Eastern Star. She also raised money for the Knights Templar Eye Foundation.

She is survived by her son, Dennis C. Stackhouse and his wife Lynda of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two grandsons, Andrew C. Stackhouse of Boone, N.C., and Brent C. Stackhouse of New York City, N.Y.; her sister-in-law, Joanne Chute of Portland, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service and internment will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114.
