Daniel E. Scribner

Daniel Scribner

Daniel E. Scribner, 91, of Harrison, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on March 9th after a 12-year battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS)

He was born in Scribner’s Mills, Harrison, the son of Edward and Mabel (Pitman) Scribner, the youngest of five children. He graduated from Norway High School in 1951. In July of 1955, he went to Bethel on a very special date with the love of his life, Roberta. They were married only four months later. Along the way, they welcomed four children: Mabel, Roland, Thomas, and Penny. They enjoyed 68 wonderful years of marriage together. Theirs was a true love to the very end as he held her hand in his last moments.

Dan was a Master of Crooked River Masonic Lodge #l 152 for 68 years and was also a member of the Elm Vale Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Maine Antique Tractor Club for many years.

At a very young age, he began working for his grandfather Jesse at the family sawmill and later worked at his brother’s mill as well. He held many jobs after leaving the lumber business, most recently Mcwin Inc. in Harrison and P&K Sand and Gravel where he eventually retired. In his retirement, he enjoyed mowing the roadside for the towns of Harrison and Casco with his completely restored Farmall Cub. His biggest enjoyment was being around his family. You could always find him working on some kind of project in his garage on either one of the family vehicles, tractors, or Model Ts.

Daniel was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Catherine, Phyllis, Bourdon, and Lucy.

He leaves behind his wife Roberta of 68 years, along with his children Mabel Bilodeau and her husband David of Auburn, Roland Scribner and his wife Marjorie of Harrison, Thomas Scribner and his wife Wendy of Harrison, and Penny Bean of Harrison. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren Christopher Bilodeau and his wife Sarah, Jonathan Bilodeau and his wife Elizabeth, Kimberly Freeman and her husband Joe, Jessica Scribner, Roberta “Bobbi” Peterson and her husband Lyman, Kevin Scribner and companion Morgan Place, and Danielle Bean. He also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family especially wants to thank all the staff at Stephens Memorial Hospital’s Infusion Department for all the years of exceptional care, love, and support for both Daniel and Roberta.

Memorial Services will be held in the Spring.
