DENMARK — Claire M. McCue, 77, of Denmark, passed away at the Gosnell Hospice House on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2014. Claire was born Aug. 26, 1937, in New York City, N.Y., to Neil Maclellen and Mary (Snow) Maclellan.
She graduated from Mamaroneck High School in 1955, and then attended Boston University and graduated in 1960 with her BSN in Nursing. On Sept. 17, 1960, she married John C. McCue of Boston, Mass. They had three children, Deborah, Douglas and David. The family loved vacationing in Maine and decided to move to Maine in 1972. Once settled in Maine, Claire worked many years for programs in the state of Maine that serviced the population for those that were discharged from the mental health facilities. She was well-known as a strong advocate for the mentally ill. After retiring and losing both sons, she moved in with her daughter and son-in-law.
She was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles and spending time with friends, family and Mia.
She is predeceased by her husband, John “Sonny” McCue in 1980; son Douglas N. McCue in 2005; David P. McCue in 2007; and a grandson Gaige K. McCue in 2013.
She is survived by her daughter Deborah (McCue) Guptill and her son-in-law Tom Guptill; daughter-in-law, Susan (Gilman) McCue; grandchildren Michael Guptill and his wife Kate, Derek Guptill and his wife Dara, and Calahan McCue; great-grandchildren, Marley “Claire” Guptill, Lyla Guptill, Eliot Guptill, and Austin Guptill; a brother Neil Maclellan Jr., his wife Norma (Leidenberg) Maclellan and their two children Sherry (Maclellan) Linkous and Scott Maclellan; and numerous other nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
