Charles W. Courtney Miller

Wayne Miller

Charles Wayne Courtney Miller, 70, of Sweden passed away peacefully with his family by his side on February 19, 2024.

Wayne was the son of Charles and Bertha (Muriel Courtney) Miller, born in Arrington, England on June 13, 1953. He was fortunate enough to live in many places as a child thanks to his father’s career in the United States Army.

Wayne met the love of his life, Carol, February 13, 1972, at a joint youth group meeting at The First Congregational Church of Bridgton. Wayne and Carol married on
May 23, 1975, and began their life together. They then went on to have two beautiful daughters, Courtney and Jennifer.

It was no secret that Wayne had many health struggles throughout his life, however, he always managed to remain positive and upbeat with a smile on his face, frequently saying “there’s always someone in worse shape than me.” Wayne kept that positive attitude right up until the very end.

Wayne touched many lives in his time here on Earth, whether it be through his career with Stoneham Rescue, Kimball Ambulance, a Respiratory Therapist at Bridgton Hospital, or the 28 years spent with the Sweden Fire Department. Wayne also served the Town of Sweden for many years in many different capacities, accomplishing many great things for the town.

Wayne was fondly known throughout the fire community as “Chief.” He could often be found traveling around the world with Carol, most frequently to Aruba; their favorite place where they had shared so many memories and made so many friends. You could always count on Wayne to tell you some “useless facts” and trivia.

Wayne was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Bertha, and his sister Rosemary.

He is survived by his wife Carol, daughter Courtney Gibney and her husband Adam of Stow, daughter Jennifer Karahasanovic and her husband Semir and his only grandson, Edin, of Dunbarton, N.H., and his sister Carol Thomas of Hiram, along with many nieces and nephews.

At Wayne’s request, a celebration of life will be planned and announced at a later date.
