CASCO — Catherine Margaret Malia, 83, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, at her residence after a long illness.

Margaret was born in Portland on Jan. 12, 1930, the daughter of Charles Bradford and Catherine (Reardon) Malia. She attended Portland schools and lived in Portland until 2003, when she moved to Casco.

For over 30 years, Margaret worked at Mercy Hospital, retiring in 1992. She was a Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics fan. Margaret never married, but was the favorite aunt to her many nieces and nephews. She was a loyal family member and could be counted on for any family event.

She was a member of the Harold T. Andrews American Legion Post Ladies Auxiliary. As a communicant of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, she rarely missed a Mass.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents; three brothers, Charles, Ralph and Joseph; and a sister, Alice Hewson.

She will be greatly missed by her nephews, Charles Malia of Old Orchard Beach, Robert Hewson of Okemos, Mich., Peter Malia, Stephen Malia and Joseph Malia Jr. all of Portland, Kevin Malia of Whitinsville, Mass. and James Malia of Lewiston; and her nieces, Judith Malia and Cynthia Vacca, both of Portland, Mary Jane Richardson of Standish and Cheryl Doherty of Crystal Springs, Fla.; as well as many great-nieces and nephews and great-great- nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers will be recited at 8:15 a.m. on Friday, at the chapel, followed by a 9 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress Street, Portland.
