Augustine Catruch Jr.

NAPLES — Augustine Catruch Jr., a retired fine coin and jewelry dealer, crane supervisor at SAPPI, and accomplished Vietnam veteran, died Thursday, November 11, 2021 at his home in Naples from health complications caused by his exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam. He was 72 years old.

Born January 30, 1949, in Portland, Augie graduated from high school, enlisted in the Army, and served bravely in the Vietnam War. In 1978, he married the love of his life, Beverly Whitter, and raised two daughters, Kristy and
Lisa in Naples. In the late 80s after suffering a serious injury while on the job at SAPPI, he started a small coin and jewelry business with his father Augustine Catruch Sr. With his father, wife, and two daughters, they traveled across New England to trade shows building a successful business. Augie loved the “art of the deal.” In his later years, Augie spend most mornings at the local diner on his way to a local swap meet or card show.

Augie was a magnificently imaginative storyteller and enjoyed engaging with veterans who shared a common bond, also sharing his life experiences with family and friends, which included anything from jeweler trade secrets to combat experiences and everything in between. Above all else, Augie was a generous man whose top priority was ensuring the wellbeing and security of his family.

Everything in the end was his decision...his way, passing peacefully in his longtime family home.

Augie is predeceased by his wife Beverly Catruch and daughter Kristy Engelhardt.

He’s survived by his daughter Lisa Burns, and grandchildren Anthony Engelhardt, Hailey Engelhardt, Addyson Burns, and Bryleigh Burns.

Graveside committal services at the Crooked River Cemetery in Naples celebrating his life and service will be private. Arrangements are in the care of Hall Funeral Home in Casco, where his family welcomes your Augie stories at www.hallfuneralhome.net.
