CASCO — Antonia M. “Toni” Tarsetti, 77, of Casco, died peacefully on Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, at home with her family.
Antonia (Toni) was born in Canarsie, Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 9, 1937, the daughter of Louis and Mary Capasso. She lived in Canarsie, where she met her husband Jim, and on August 18, 1954, they became husband and wife. Jim and Toni moved to Babylon, Long Island, in 1968 with their four children: Deborah, James Jr., Anthony and Gina. They eventually moved to Portland, Maine in 1973, where she went to work for American Greetings. Toni then went on to manage the Paper Party House in Portland.
She was a talented traditional rug hooker and quilter, and a member of the Tin Peddler Rug Hooking Club. Her rugs were displayed in various exhibits over the years, winning her first place and best in show. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and enjoyed the times she spent with her family. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to many of the Caribbean islands, as well as spending their winters together in Florida. She loved spending time at the various casinos they traveled to and Lady Luck was always on her side.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, James Tarsetti; her sister and fiancé Victoria Moccia and Pat Conlin; her children: daughter Deborah Bachand and her husband Steve, son James Tarsetti Jr. and his wife Julie, daughter Gina Rice and her husband Chip, grandchildren: Christopher Nowak, Jessica Harmon and her husband Donny, Rebecca Nowak, Sarah Tarsetti, Santino Tarsetti, Natasha Fitzpatrick and fiancé Tony Massey, Nicholas Fitzpatrick, and Antonia Tarsetti and her husband Omar Ibourk; step-grandchildren: Emily Rice, Jordan Rice, Danielle Vachon, and Derek Sinnett, great-grandchildren: Evelyn Rose Massey, Jacob Austin, Jayla Oliver, Kayden Oliver, and Isabelle Scott; in-laws: Robert Tarsetti and his wife Anne, Marlene Eustis and her husband Craig, and Gene Tarsetti and his wife Terry. She was predeceased by a son, Anthony Tarsetti.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014, at the American Legion Hall, 15 Lewiston Road, in Gray, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Catholic prayers will be celebrated at 2 p.m. with Father Greenleaf as Celebrant. Interment will be in the spring at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Bowdoin Mill Island, Topsham, ME 04086.
