Scott W. Tarr

MASSENA, N.Y. — Scott W. Tarr, “Dawg,” age 58, passed away after a courageous battle against cancer on Monday, March 21, 2011 at his residence on Maple Street in Massena, in his wife’s loving arms.

Scott was born on April 2, 1952 in Portland, Maine to Charles R. and Gail Howe Tarr. He was in the first graduating class in 1970 at Lake Region High School in Naples, Maine. He married his wife, Lori Ann, on Belknap Mountain in Gilford, N.H. on June 2, 1990.

Scott was employed at Dow Electric, Inc. in Malone, N.Y. He wore many hats in his lifetime — he had 40 years in the electrical field, starting as an apprentice electrician in 1970 for the family business, Tarr Electric, in Bridgton, Maine. He became a state-licensed master electrician in the states of Maine and N.H. in 1975. He had 12 years overall field experience as a master electrician and foreman, and six years as a full-time instructor with a state teaching certificate for electrical occupations. He taught states of Maine and N.H. electrical apprenticeship programs; worked sixteen years as full-time Estimator/Project Manager; three years as full-time Purchasing Manager; and two years as Senior estimator in the commercial division.

An achievement Scott is most proud of is that he submitted curriculum, which he developed, to the State of Maine electrician's examining board and it was approved as the first High School or College level program to meet the Apprenticeship’s required hours of classroom instruction. This meant that a graduate from his program needed only the required “on the job” training hours to be eligible to take the State’s Journeyman exam.

Scott was very active in his community over the years as a coach of football, baseball, softball, soccer and basketball for his children. Scott enjoyed playing softball and hockey with his buddies, where he was lovingly known as “Gretsky.”

Scott owned and operated his own DJ business for many years, Tarr Tunes, in Massena. He was the “music man” for many occasions including karaoke. He was a drummer and/or guitar player for many bands as well. Scott loved music and sharing happy times with his friends and family. Scott was an avid motorcycle rider and loved the time spent with great friends riding here in Massena as well as in Orlando, Fla.

Scott is survived by his wife, Lori and three beautiful children, Meredith of Laconia, N.H., Brian of Alexandra, N.H. and Evan of Massena; and granddaughters Anna, Grace and Cynthia, all of N.H. and his loyal dog, Lola. He is also survived by his brothers, Tom and wife, Mary Ann of Gorham, Maine, Charles of Craftsbury Common, Vt., Ricky of Boothbay, Maine, a sister, Lindsay of Portland, Maine and many loving nieces and nephews, as well as many great nieces and great nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Charles in 1979 and his mother, Gail in 2003.

Scott will be missed by many and will continue to live on through our memories and the celebration of his life at the Bethel Assembly of God.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Scott’s memory to American Cancer Society, Hope Lodge in Burlington, VT 05401, and to St. Lawrence County Hospice. We owe a world of thanks to Hope Lodge and Hospice.

Scott’s final words were “Be Happy” and I say Yes, be happy, for life is short my friends. Peace.
