PORTLAND — Ruth Belinda Hazelton, 65, died unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, at her home in Portland.

She was born in Bridgton June 7, 1951, the daughter of Ruth Stiles Hazelton and the late Charles L. Hazelton. She graduated from Bridgton High School in the class of 1969. She attended the University of Maine at Farmington, graduating in May 1973 with a Bachelor's of Science degree. At Farmington, she participated in theater, enjoyed working on WUMF, worked as Librarian, and served on Freshmen Orientation.

Ruth was a lover of books, history, researching family history, and science fiction. Local politics found her often responding on an issue.

Survivors include her brothers, Charles and his partner Karen of Seabrook, N.H., Steven of Arlington, Va., Merle and his wife Lillian of Richmond, Va., her sister Sharon of Westfield, Mass.; and nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service for the family will be held at a later date. Hall Funeral Home of Casco is assisting.
