Mary A. Whittemore

PORTLAND — Mary Anne Whittemore, 83, passed away on Feb. 10, 2011.

She was born in Portland on Jan. 28, 1928, the daughter of the late Earle B. and Mary E. (Tibbetts) Whittemore.

Mary Anne was a witty woman. She had an exceptional memory in regard to dates, from significant events in our history to remembering the special birthdates of family and friends. She had a love for cats; there was never a time that she didn’t have a feline companion. Her favorite color was purple and she loved to celebrate the holidays.

Mary Anne attended Portland schools and graduated from Deering High School in 1946. She worked many years for Traveler’s Insurance Co., CN Brown and the Red Cross. She was also a lifetime member of the Eastern Star and a member of the Woodford’s Congregational Church for 71 years.

She is survived by her sister, Patricia W. Hamblen of Harrison; two nieces including Susan Egan of Fryeburg; two grandnephews and three grandnieces.

A graveside service was held on Tuesday, Feb. 15, in Evergreen Cemetery in Portland.
