Matthew Harris, 77

ELIOT — Matthew Harris, 77, of Eliot, died on Friday, July 18, 2014, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born in Cambridge, Mass., on June 23, 1937, he was the son of Charles and Lora Harris. He was raised and attended schools in Wakefield, Mass., and Bridgton. While in high school, he served in the United States Air Force Reserves. Upon graduation, he served his country in the United States Army.

Matthew attended Lowell Technical College and Northeastern University earning his BS degree in electrical engineering. He worked first at General Radio then for many years at GTE Sylvania, enjoying travel throughout the world for business development and system engineering.

After retiring from GTE, Matthew became an independent certified financial planner servicing clients throughout New England and New York.

He was an avid New England sports fan, enjoying all the local teams. His hobbies included fishing, cooking/baking/grilling, reading, music and travel. His first love was unquestionably his family; time spent with them was second to none. Family gatherings at home, the New Castle Common and Nantucket were especially cherished.

He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Marie Harris; his four children, Dawn, Daphne, Laurie and Matthew; and his five grandsons.

Funeral services will be private at his request. Arrangements entrusted to the JS Pelkey Funeral Home.
