GORHAM — Rubye Clyde Webb Grady, 86, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family.

She was born on May 5, 1924, in Robinsonville, Miss., the daughter of the late Clyde Heloys and Ida May (Scott) Webb. She attended schools in Mississippi and then found employment with war related industries. While packing parachutes for an Army Air Base, she made a jump on a dare, a rare event in those days. She later joined the Marine Corps Reserve shortly before V-E Day and joked that the Nazis gave up when she enlisted.

After the war, she became a hostess for TWA and flew out of Los Angeles. It was there that she met and married Robert P. “Pat” Grady. They were married 62 years, a full, exciting, fun six decades. She was employed by Sears and Roebuck for more than 20 years and was secretary to the store manager at the time of her retirement. She was fondly known as Rubye Roebuck. She was active in her church, was an accomplished crafts person and was very well known for her stylish collection of hats. She was an avid reader of books, especially thrillers.

She is survived by her husband; her sons, Michael of Albuquerque, N.M., James of Cumberland and Brian of Sebago; daughters, Patricia Zline of Laurel, Md., Mary-Kate Flaherty of Westbrook, and the Rev. Georgene Conner of Woodstock, N.Y.; her five grandchildren; a sister, Beulah Pinkston of Memphis, Tenn.

She was predeceased by her three sisters, Clara, Alice and Bessie; and an infant son, Edmund Clyde.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 299 Main Street, Gorham, on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Eastern Cemetery, Gorham. For online condolences, please visit www.dolbyfuneralchapels.com
