Albert A. Ferland Jr., 73

PARSONSFIELD — Albert Andrew “Lefty” Ferland Jr., 73, of Parsonsfield died peacefully at his home on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013.

He was born in Skowhegan, on Sept. 17, 1940, the son of Albert and Lillian (Richardson) Ferland. He was a graduate of Gorham High School in 1959 and proudly served in the United States Army. He married June Dunnells on April 11, 1964 and together they raised four children.

He worked at a Gorham Bowling Alley as well as for Strike and Spare Lanes in Kezar Falls for many years. He later worked for over 20 years at Weyerhauser, which later became Southern Container, in Westbrook until his retirement. He then worked for both Robert Libby and Gary Taylor sharpening tools for the timber industry for several more years. He recently became a member of the American Legion in Kezar Falls.

Lefty enjoyed hunting, fishing and Harley Davidson motorcycles. He also enjoyed bird and squirrel watching as well as berry picking. He especially enjoyed eating those berries after they had been made into a delicious pie. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He always loved going to his children’s, and later his grandchildren’s sporting events. Lefty will be sadly missed by his loving family and all who knew him.

Surviving are his beloved wife, June Ferland of Parsonsfield; three daughters, Julie Locke, Angela Taylor and Andrea Webster, all of Porter; his son, Andrew Ferland of Melvin Village, N.H.; two sisters, Mary Ellen Jondahl of Acton and Joyce Towns of Waterboro; a brother, Kennedy “Bill” Ferland of Naples; 10 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial celebration of his life will be on Sunday, Dec. 29, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Watson, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple Street, Cornish. Burial will be in the spring. Online condolences may be expressed at: www.wnyfuneralhome.com
