PORTLAND — Virginia R. Neal “Ginny” Gordon, 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, May 17, 2013.

The daughter of James F. and Gladys Chick Neal, she was born in Portland. She attended local schools and graduated from Portland High School, Class of 1938. After graduation, she attended Shaw’s Business College.

As a young woman, she studied piano and was an accomplished pianist. She worked in Portland for Canal National Bank, Maine Bonding Company, and the Hartford Insurance Company. She worked in Brooklyn, N.Y., for Dime Savings Bank. She was a longtime employee of the Portland School Department as a school secretary, once winning the “Maine School Secretary of the Year” award. She retired from this position.

In June 1956, she married Dwin A. Gordon. She accompanied him to many dowsing conventions and they enjoyed many snowmobile adventures together. In retirement, she studied organ in a senior organ class at Starbird Music in Portland and enjoyed doing many types of crafts and reading her library books. Her favorite event of every month was changing her teddy bear display she loved so dearly.

Known and loved by many, Ginny will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

She was predeceased her husband Dwin in 2000.

She is survived by her daughter, Vickie G. Conklin of Cumberland; her stepson, Gary A. Gordon of Casco; and a granddaughter.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Blanchard Cemetery, Winn Road, Falmouth, with the Rev. Philip Shearman officiating.
