Thomas Hancock

CASCO — Thomas Milton Hancock, 66, died Thursday, July 13, 2017.

He was born June 25, 1951, to Betty and Sumner Hancock.He graduated from Casco High School in 1969, studied Business Education at Husson, earned a Master’s in Education from New Hampshire College and a PhD in Education from Nova Southeastern.

He married Holly B. Marr in 1975, and welcomed son Geoffrey in 1977 and son Evan in 1979.

Tom worked at Hancock Lumber, a family-run lumber company, from 1967 to 1990, when he returned to his true love of teaching. He taught at various schools and colleges, culminating in a 16-year career at St. Joseph's College, where he served as an administrator, professor and advisor. Tom was actively involved in the United Church of Christ, both in Casco and statewide, and served as a dean and counselor at the UCC Pilgrim Lodge summer camp. He was involved with Seeds of Peace, an international summer camp in Otisfield, as an adult delegation program director and as the Southeast Asian program director in India and Pakistan. Tom was honored to be a Mercy Associate working with the Sisters of Mercy to further their mission. He was well-known as “The Voice” of Casco Days.

He is survived by his wife Holly; his brother Doug; his sons Geof and Evan; his daughter-in-law Gina; and granddaughters Lily, Emilia, Adeline, Lucy and Sophia. He is also survived by a large Hancock and Homans extended family.

Visiting hours are scheduled for Friday, July 21st, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Hall Funeral Home in Casco. The service will be held at Casco Village Church on Saturday. July 22nd, at 10 a.m. A reception will follow the service at 961 Meadow Road.
