HARRISON/STONEHAM — T. Jewell Collins, a former resident of Harrison, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Hartford Hospital.

A prolific writer and teacher of writing, Mrs. Collins’ articles appeared in a number of prominent magazines and newspapers including countless articles in the Christian Science Monitor. Many of her students were published in national and international publications, as well as regional and family magazines. Jewell always took a personal interest in each student, encouraging them to think expansively about their talents and ways to express them. Her talents were many, and it would be difficult to find a more dedicated, caring person than Jewell.

She loved learning about other cultures and religions and spent much of her retirement traveling to places such as India, Turkey, and Israel and across the United States.

Jewell spent a lifetime of happy summers at her rustic Maine camp in Stoneham on Back Pond, one of the five Kezar lakes.

Jewell’s gentle radiance, warmth and kindness meant she was loved by a large and diverse circle of friends and family. She will be sadly missed by her three children, Mark, Betsy and Shepard, her grandchildren, her neighbors in the retirement community, where she lived, numerous friends in Maine, where she vacationed and lived for many years, and the many friends that she kept in touch with across the country and around the world.

Following cremation by the Glastonbury Funeral Home, her ashes will be interred in the family plot in Needham, Mass.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Greater Lovell Land Trust at GLLT, PO 181, Center Lovell, ME 04016.

A gathering to honor Jewell is planned for this summer.
