Sylvia A. Day

CASCO — Sylvia Anita Day, 74, of Casco and formerly of Windham, died on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, in Portland.

She was born in Allentown, Pa., on April 16, 1937, the daughter of the late Edwin and Wilhelma (Rayburn) Brobst. Syl was a 1955 graduate from the Allentown High School in Pennsylvania.

Following graduation, she married Richard L. Day on March 3, 1962, and they started their journey together. After completing his tour of duty in the United States Air Force, the young couple resided in Gorham and Westbrook, then moved to Windham, where they resided for many years before moving to Casco two months ago.

For many years, she worked as a bookkeeper for a plumbing supply company in Allentown, Pa. Upon moving to Maine, she worked at Stultz Automotive. Following her employment at Stultz automotive, she worked for 10 years at the Holiday Inn in Portland as an inspector and then 10 years at the Barnhouse Restaurant in Windham working in laundry and cleaning.

In her spare time, she enjoyed identifying birds, bowling, reading and stock cars.

In addition to her husband of nearly 50 years, surviving family members include a sister, Edwinna Reiss of Copley, Pa.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Valerie Heather Day; and by a sister, Carol Grubbs.

Services were held at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham, on Saturday, Feb. 4. Spring burial will be in the Smith Cemetery, Windham. For online condolences, please visit www.dolbyfuneralchapels.com
