SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — Shirley M. Allen, 73, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010 at her home in Springfield, Vt.

She was born July 19, 1937 in Porter, the daughter of Clifford and Evelyn (Cram) Douglass. She attended schools in Maine and graduated from Bridgton High School in Bridgton.

Shirley was married to Wayne L. Allen Sr. on May 30, 1981 in Manchester, Conn.

She was employed for over 35 years as a bank manager for Hartford National Bank in Connecticut. After her retirement from the bank, Shirley and Wayne owned and operated Wayne’s Greenhouse in Chester, Vt. for 10 years.

Shirley made her home in East Windsor, Conn. for many years; Chester, Vt. for 10 years; and has resided in Springfield, Vt. since 2002. She also wintered in Florida for many years, which she enjoyed very much.

She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles and tag sales.

She is survived by her husband Wayne L. Allen Sr. of Springfield, Vt.; a stepson, Wayne L. Allen Jr. of Sacramento, Calif.; four stepdaughters, Lori Scribner of West Rutland, Vt., Holly Allen, also of West Rutland, Vt., Leticia Capitan of Belchertown, Mass. and Lesle Beland of South Windsor, Conn.; a brother, Nelson Douglass of Woodstock, Conn.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by a brother, Alan Douglass; and a sister, Beverly Wilkerson.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010 at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, Vt. Burial followed in the Ascutneyville Cemetery in Ascutney, Vt.
