PORTLAND — Sandra L. (Fillion) Spescha, 58, of Gray, died on Monday, Oct. 5, 2015 at the Barron Center after a long illness.

Sandy was born in Rantoul, Ill. on March 23, 1957, a daughter of the late Richard Fillion and Betty Lou (Brown) Fillion of Portland. She grew up in Portland, attending local area schools and graduating from Portland High School as a member of the Class of 1975. She then went on to earn an associate’s degree in Applied Sciences from Andover College, and also took accounting courses at Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute from 1978-79.

She spent around two years working for Norman David Lincoln Mercury in Westbrook, then spent a few years at Sea Fresh on the waterfront in Portland. Sandy then moved to Massachusetts and worked for the Beverly Hospital for four years or so, but eventually moved back to Maine and worked for Holden Company, D’Angelos, Mancini Electric and Mobil in Windham until retiring due to illness; even then she still worked as a notary public.

Sandy loved animals, especially cats and dogs and cared for many of them throughout her life. She enjoyed playing cribbage with her family and Internet games. She also could be found tending to her vegetable garden and rooting for the New England Patriots.

Besides her mother, she is survived by her daughter, Brandy Goodwin of Raymond; her two granddaughters; her three siblings, Caril Schultz of Satsuma, Ala., Richard Fillion of New Hampshire and Melissa Davis of Saco; her two stepbrothers, Gary Scribner of Florida and Richard Scribner of Iowa; a stepsister, Sandra Scribner-Merlim of Harrison; as well as several nieces and nephews.
