Robert J. Higgins Sr., 89

RAYMOND — Robert J. Higgins Sr., 89, died on April 2, 2013, at Togus VAMC in Augusta.

He was born in Lawrence, Mass., and worked in the mills while completing his high school education.

He served in the Navy during WWII as a metalsmith first class on the USS Briareus (AR-12) in the South Pacific. He was awarded the American Theater Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, WWII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the American Legion in Windham.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Esther Ryan Higgins; his brother Harold; and his stepson Joseph Mitchell.

Surviving are his son Robert of Methuen, Mass.; stepdaughter Patricia Dalphond of Dracut, Mass.; three brothers, James of Florida, John of Ohio and Gerald of New York; his sister Rita McDonald of Florida; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are private. Arrangements are by Hall Funeral Home, Casco.
