WEST PARIS — Robert E. “Bob” Jones, 73, of Norway, died Tuesday night, Sept. 9, 2014 at Ledgeview Living Center.

He was born Oct. 30, 1940 in Fryeburg, the son of Erwin “Pete” Jones and Abbie Kimball Jones.

He was educated in Waterford schools and graduated from Norway High School as a member of the Class of 1960.

He began working for L.M. Longley & Son in Norway in 1956 and learned to be a master plumber, master oil burner technician and master sheet metal worker. He retired in 2004 after 48 years with the company. He was also gifted in carpentry and electrical work.

He married Jane Merrill on March 24, 1961, and they resided for 50 years at the Harrison Road home he renovated several times.

He was a founding member of the Norway-Paris Fish and Game Club and a member of the Norway Trackers Snowmobile Club. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking, biking, dancing, snowmobiling, country music, rebuilding vehicles and canoes, painting landscapes and still lifes, feeding birds and watching the Red Sox.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Jones of Norway; two sons, Stephen Jones of Oxford and Randall Jones of West Paris; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Stevens of North Waterford and Sylvia Jones of Nampa, Idaho; a brother, Erwin Jones Jr. of East Stoneham; brothers- and sisters-in-law including Shirley Merrill of Waterford, Russell and Martha Merrill of Harrison, Raymond and Dorene Merrill of Waterford, Gail Merrill of Waterford, Marcia and John Butters of Waterford and James Merrill of Waterford; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Dean Brackett.

The family welcomes visitors on Friday, Sept. 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Oxford Hills Funeral Services, 1037 Main Street, Oxford. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 2 p.m. at Lake View Cemetery in Norway with a reception to follow at Oxford Advent Christian Church on Route 26 in Oxford.
