SEBAGO — Robert Burns, 74, of Sebago, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014.

He was born in Bridgton on Sept. 22, 1939, a son of George Burns Jr. and Georgia (Brown) Burns. He attended local schools and graduated from Bridgton High School in 1958. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, where he was a tank driver.

Robert worked 30 years for the Portland Water District, retiring in 1998. He was very active in his community where, along with his wife, he organized the Sebago Days Parade for 20 years, as well as serving as President and Vice President of the Sebago Days Committee. He was also "keeper" of the community sign at the Village Green and took it upon himself to make sure all the veterans of Sebago had flags on their graves each Memorial Day.

Robert was a member of the Maple Grove Grange #148 in Sebago, Mt. Etna Grange # 147 in North Baldwin, Cumberland and Oxford Union Pomona Grange as well as the Maine State and National Grange. He was a member of the Naples, Casco and Raymond American Legion #155 and a life member of the Naples V.F.W. post. He was also a member of the Sebago Fire Department and the Sebago Historical Society. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.

Robert was predeceased by a sister, Melva Burns. Surviving are his beloved wife of 48 years, Ann Burns of Sebago; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ralph and Carol Brown of Sebago; as well as several loving nieces and nephews.
