Richard A. Hill Sr., 78

 

RAYMOND – Richard “Jake” A. Hill Sr., 78, of Raymond died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015 at the Maine Medical Center, Portland.

He was born in New Gloucester on June 7, 1937 to Arthur G. and Blanche G. (Hall) Hill. Jake attended local schools in New Gloucester and graduated from New Gloucester High School, Class of 1955.

He married Nancy Carll Hill on Sept. 6, 1957. Jake worked for the former Rand Egg Company of Gray, was a bus driver for the Gray School Department and later for Crosby Laughlin of Portland. For over 30 years, Jake worked for Stan V. Hall & Son of Windham. He also did floral deliveries for the former Linda’s Flower Shop of Windham and for the past 13 years, he drove the school bus for SAD 15 Gray-New Gloucester.

Jake enjoyed family gatherings, fishing, hunting, racecars, going to horse races and casinos. He also enjoyed high school basketball games and was a Little League coach in Windham for many years.

He was predeceased by a son, Scott Hill in 1958; and two granddaughters.

Surviving besides his wife of 58 years, Nancy Carll Hill of Raymond, are two sons, Kenneth A. Hill of Naples and Richard A. Hill Jr. of Windham; two daughters, Wanda S. Pollard of Windham and Beth of Falmouth; two brothers, Sherm V. Hill and Allan “Bub” Hill, both of Gray; a sister, Laura Hill of Scarborough; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

An hour of visitation was held on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015 at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham followed by a 12 p.m. funeral service at the chapel. Burial will be private.
