Ora Strout Jr.

CASCO — Ora Oliver Strout Jr., 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at Bridgton Hospital.

He was born in Portland, on July 17, 1929, son of Ora O. Sr. and Aubine Morrill Strout. He grew up in Portland and graduated from Deering High School while helping his father with the family garage business on Brighton Avenue. He married Myrtle Jensen in 1950, and served briefly in the United States Army.

In 1952, Ora, Myrtle and their young son moved to Casco Village with Ora’s parents to open Casco Garage. Here they raised their four children.

Ora worked in the garage, hauled pulp, did numerous other odd jobs, and began working for Hancock Lumber, from which he retired after 41 years. He volunteered for the Casco Fire Department, worked tirelessly for Casco Days, and was always available for anyone in need.

Ora will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife Myrtle; son Larry and wife Roni of No. Waterboro; daughters Tammy and husband Brian Clark of Casco, and Jeanette and Robert Thibodeau of Casco; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brother Ronald of Old Orchard Beach; sister Natalie Elliott of Gorham; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ora was predeceased by son Rodney R. Strout; and sisters Gloria Sawyer and Barbara Drost.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Casco Fire and Rescue Department. Myrtle would like to thank the staff of Bridgton Hospital for their kindness and care.
