Myles L. O’Donnell Jr.

PORTLAND — Myles L. O’Donnell, Jr., 77, a lifelong resident of Portland, died peacefully Dec. 24, 2011 at the Barron Center.

He was born August 14, 1934 in Portland, a son of Myles L. and Emily M. (Reardon) O’Donnell, Sr.
Myles was educated in local schools and was a 1952 graduate of Deering High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine in 1956 and his master’s degree in History at Clark University in Worcester, Mass. He played the clarinet for Deering High School and the University of Maine Bands.

He taught history and social studies at Windham High School retiring in 1986.

Myles was a lifelong communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Portland, where he married Catherine E. Campbell in May 1987.

Myles enjoyed sports and followed the Red Sox, Celtics and College sports. He was a former member of the Maine Teachers’ Association. He especially enjoyed his summers at his camp on Trickey Pond in Naples.

He was predeceased by his wife Catherine on July 30, 1999.

Surviving are his son, Mark O’Donnell of South Portland; his sister, Kathleen Curry of South Portland; three nieces, a nephew and great nephews.

A 12:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at St. Joseph’s Church, 673 Stevens Avenue, Portland. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
